Botanical name: Microtropis latifolia    Family: Celastraceae (Spike-thorn family)

Broadleaf Redberry Tree is a small tree, up to 5 m tall. Branches are round, black-purple. Leaves are simple, opposite to nearly so, decussate; leaf-stalk 0.5-1 cm long, channeled. Leaves are 7-15 x 2.5-6.5 cm, elliptic or oblong-lanceshaped, tapering, base pointed to narrowed, margin entire, margins reflexed, pale beneath, hairless, leathery; secondary nerves about 8 pairs, not prominent; tertiary nerves obscure. Flowers are white, borne in stalkless clusters, in leaf-axils. Capsule is ellipsoid, 1.5 cm long; 1-seeded. Broadleaf Redberry Tree is endemic to Western Ghats.
